Human trafficking is more evident in countries at war, developing countries, and poverty filled countries. However, human trafficking happens all over the world. Poorer countries act as source countries or countries of origin because they are a source of trafficking victims. Where as, richer countries, such as the United States and Japan, are more often destination countries, which is where victims are taken to. Other countries serve as transit countries, where victims of trafficking are held temporarily on route to destination countries. People can also be trafficked internally, or within their own country, usually from rural areas into cities. There is also transnational trafficking, which is trafficking across country borders.
